Vendee to Gascony

France’s Atlantic coast includes some of the country’s best holiday regions. Stretching from the mouth of the Loire down past La Rochelle, Bordeaux and on towards Biarritz, the West coast is an almost continuous line of golden beaches, backed by pine forests, sunflower fields and vineyards.

Further south, the endless sandy beaches, Atlantic rollers and miles of forest continue, while the temperatures rise higher. Beach living and surf sports create a relaxed pace. Cool off in elegant and grand Bordeaux. As well as Bordeaux’s famous wines, the region is perfect for sampling Cognac, Armagnac and the dangerously drinkable Pineau des Charentes!

Away from the vineyards, the Atlantic dominates – with perfect beaches for surfing, backed by dunes (including the astounding 100m Dune du Pilat), and hundreds of kilometres of cycle tracks winding through the shady forests beyond.
